Episode 4: Door to Door
By: Carlos Uribe
Modern Family is a
show about a family that is supposedly modern.
Spoilers Ahoy!
When Modern Family
is good, then it is simply a laugh riot. I am happy to say that last
night's episode was such a laugh riot. Even better, all the
storylines managed to be funny and somehow connected at the same
time. If you're going to watch only one episode of Modern Family this
season, this may be the one I recommend. Then again, we're still
early in the season.
Mitchell likes
things to be clean. He simply doesn't like messes. Cameron doesn't
mind a mess as much, and he doesn't like to clean. You'd think the
two would have an understanding. Turns out that Mitchell isn't happy
having to be the guy who always cleans things up. So he refuses to
clean up the latest mess Cameron made until Cameron admits he uses
Mitchell. This revelation comes at the worst time possible, since an
adoption person arrives just when Mitchell was making a big mess. Oh
how fun!
Jay decides to
help Manny go door to door to sell wrapping paper. It's a bit hard to
sell the wrapping paper, so in the end Jay has to buy it all.
Meanwhile Gloria has to go out to the neighborhood to look for
Stella. Why? Because she kicked him outside because he kept bothering
her at the kitchen. She left the gate open, so he got out. Anyways
she does find the dog Stella, but looking for the dog made Cameron
happy since he got to yell out “Stella!” while wearing only a
muscle shirt. This wasn't as funny as the show made it out to be, but
it was still pretty funny.
Going door to door
is also Claire, who is looking for signatures to get a stop sign. She
doesn't have much luck and is frustrated to find out when her family
didn't help her collect signatures. She decides to go to the meeting
regardless, and in the last minute her guilty family saves her with
signatures. It's unknown if there will be a stop sign, but David
Cross did an excellent guest spot that I simply just loved.
Meanwhile Luke and
Phil were trying to create a video of Luke throwing the ball at
Phil's head, hoping it'll then go through the basket. They don't
exactly succeed, but they do get a video of Phil getting hit many
times on the head with a basketball. This is good enough for them,
although their a long ways from being a viral sensation (they got 78
views! Oh what am I kidding, I wish the readership of this blog was
that high).
Modern Family
delivered a hilarious episode. It wasn't just funny, but I liked how
they managed to connect the stories not with a theme, but with an
element. That element was essentially going out to the world to
accomplish their goal: going door to door. It was also used rather
effectively in the editing room at one point. Overall a great
episode.
