Shake It Up/Good Luck Charlie

Shake It Up/Good Luck Charlie
Episode 7: Party It Up/Charlie Did It
Mini-Reviews
By: Carlos Uribe

Shake It Up is about two best friends who are on a local dance show. Good Luck Charlie is a show about the Duncan family. They both air on Disney Channel.

Spoilers Ahoy!

In the Shake It Up episode, “Party It Up”, it had the two main characters sneaking out and going to an adult party. They thought they were attending as guests but in reality they were invited to be waitresses. When they found out the truth, Rocky wanted to leave but cute boys convinced her to stay. The party hit all the expected notes you would expect and the series didn't do anything new with this kind of story. The episode also featured a sub-plot where Finn watched a scary movie and it's saying something when I would rather watch that ridiculous fake movie than the actual episode the movie is featured in. This is stereotypical television plotlines that other shows have managed to cover before and with better success. There's just nothing new that this episode is able to offer and it therefore suffers as a consequence. On the bright side, the dance in the beginning did serve into the theme of what this episode was about.

It would coincidentally also fit the Good Luck Charlie episode “Charlie Did It”. This episode has Teddy and Gabe going to a store to buy some diapers for Charlie. The episode felt the need to ground Gabe to come to the store with Teddy by making sure he was grounded in the beginning of the episode. When Charlie grabs some sunglasses as the characters head out, the uptight manager decides to follow protocol and treat all three of them as shoplifters. The episode's cute factor rises when Charlie gets her mug shots taken but the funny never comes. Gabe's plan to escape the store manager is as predictable and childish as you can imagine. In the end, the characters don't get arrested but they get in trouble anyway. There's also a sub-plot that involves PJ coming up with jingles for his dad's commercial and that's also as predictable as it can be.
