The
Mentalist is a show about Patrick Jane, a consultant for the cops who
solves crimes while seeking revenge for his family.
Spoilers
Ahoy!
The
weekly case involved a wealthy elderly socialite whose ashes were
found in her creepy mansion. The working theory was that she had
burned to a crisp. When Jane determined that it was murder, the case
was on. The cops quickly got a lot of suspects. Her nephew might have
wanted to kill her because he believed he was about to lose a lawsuit
to her aunt. It might have been the person who took her sailing
because she got a valuable boat in the will. A person of interest in
the case was her doctor because he was prescribing too much medicine.
The cops come up with a conspiracy theory that the doctor worked with
the nephew to make her aunt look mentally unstable. The will would be
thrown out and the nephew would profit. Jane exposes the real
conspiracy. The doctor was telling the truth when he said that the
“victim” had been blackmailing her into making her seem crazy.
She was faking her own death because she had burnt through her
inheritance and was stealing money from her prized charity. I believe
this isn't the first time the show has pulled this twist but it still
managed to come as a surprise. The weekly case was solid but it also
did feel like it was just going through the motions. The episode was
good and entertaining while it lasted but it ended up being rather
forgettable. The only memorable part was where Rigsby made multiple
dates with women but didn't show up to a single one. A classic move
for the character.
