Grey's Anatomy
Episode 6: If Tomorrow
Never Comes
By: Carlos Uribe
Grey's
Anatomy is about a bunch of doctors. It has aired on ABC since 2005.
Spoilers
Ahoy!
The
sixth episode of Grey's Anatomy is a pretty good one when it comes to
the medical drama. It features three patients. The first has a giant
tumor. She's a woman who has allowed a tumor to grow to record size.
The reasons he hadn't sought treatment for the tumor is because
everyone that she knew that has gone to a hospital has died. She was
afraid that if she went to the hospital, that would be the end. She
waited until the last possible moment to go. She waited for too long.
By being afraid of dying in the hospital, she ensured that when she
finally went she was going to die. The surgeons tried to operate on
her but she lost too much blood in the surgery. The episode had also
used the patient to show the difference between Alex and George. Alex
is shown to pretend to care about the patient, but then mock her
behind her back. She manages to hear this and he upsets her. George
actually does care about the patient but he isn't as good as a doctor
as Alex is. It's an interest contrast between the two of them.
The
second patient features another chance for Dr. Meredith Grey to
connect with a patient due to her mother's condition. In this
episode, a father has a disease that can be largely cured with brain
surgery. He doesn't want to let them cut open in his brain while he's
awake because he's afraid. His daughter is getting married in a month
and she wants her father to walk her down the aisle. If he doesn't
get the surgery, he won't be able to do that. Dr. Grey is able to
connect with the daughter since she also has a mother who is dying in
front of her eyes. She's able to convince the father to get the
surgery and he gets a happy ending. It goes well and the day is
relatively saved. While she's dealing with this patient, she also has
to deal with Bailey's knowledge that she and Derek are currently
sleeping together. Bailey isn't happy with this news but Meredith
decides that she'll continue to see Derek. It even appears that the
two are getting closer together.
The
third patient is a man who has a clot in his system. He appears to be
doing fine until it just happens that Izzie is all alone on the
floor. She's supposed to have the floor with Alex, but he forgets to
replace the batteries in his pager and he misses all his pages. Izzie
has to run around the hospital, treating every possible patient. This
becomes a major problem when she has to cut open a guy and get rid of
a clot because it was an emergency. She had to do this all by herself
and with only a nurse to help guide her. It was the first time she
had ever done it but she managed to succeed. The guy's life is saved.
She gets Preston to stitch him back up. It's a great way to show that
while Izzie might easily freak out, she's able to act under pressure.
This
was a pretty good episode of Grey's Anatomy. It managed to really
build up the tension with Izzie's emergency cut and the surgery of
the tumor. This wasn't a good episode for Alex as he just kept
messing up this week. It was an episode that had some pretty great
medical drama and the personal drama didn't overtake the episode by
that much. After thinking about it, this will be the final episode
that I review. While this series has managed to go from being
unbearablly unwatchable to something that's at least entertaining, it's
not really that interesting to review and neither has it been able to
hook me. There's only three episodes left in this season but I don't
find myself wanting to tune in to them at all-and that's still a
problem for this show.
