Episode 19: The Heart
Will Go On
By: Carlos Uribe
90210
is a show about a whole bunch of rich kids living in the zip.
Spoilers
Ahoy!
Silver
may or may not have the cancer gene. The question is left unanswered
by the time the episode ended, with an ominous voice mail from the
doctor's office telling Silver they need to meet to discuss plans.
This is either the worst hospital in the world that needlessly gets
people worried who shouldn't be worried or Silver has the cancer
gene. She does have someone who is supporting her is Liam. Liam is
being a great friend to her and he's really been helping her through
this ordeal. Vanessa doesn't know what is happening so she gets
jealous when Silver and Liam are constantly hanging out. She thinks
that there might be something going on between Silver and Liam and
even tries to confront the two. She learns the truth about Liam being
simply Silver's best friend but Vanessa is still angry because she
doesn't know if she can trust Liam. Seriously, Vanessa? Liam makes it
up to Vanessa by making her a partner for a new production company.
Some people just buy flowers, so I guess Vanessa has a keeper in
Liam.
While
Silver was getting tested for cancer, Dixon was at the hospital
having heart problems. It looks like his drug addiction, a heart
defect he's had from birth, and the stress over getting a solo record
deal gave him some kind of a stroke. Adrianna completely panics,
making it a way bigger deal than it is. This annoys Dixon because he
already has a sister, Annie, who has been bugging him with all of her
caring. Dixon doesn't even want Annie to find out that he went to the
hospital but she ends up finding out anyways. The heart situation
causes Adrianna to break up the music duo because she thinks that's
too stressful for Dixon. Dixon decides to take this opportunity to
accept the record deal but is apparently going to keep it a secret
from Adrianna. He decides to keep this a secret right
after he “learns” a lesson that it's always better to just tell
the truth. I'm going to assume that memory problems came with that
heart defect. I've been complaining all season long that I don't
really care about Dixon and Adrianna but these last couple of weeks
have made their story-lines interesting. Can the two continue this
streak until the next episode? I hope so.
While
Silver was getting tested for cancer and Dixon had heart problems,
Raj died from cancer. I'm disappointed that the series handled almost
his entire cancer sub-plot off-screen but at least we got to see it
end. Raj doesn't want Ivy to learn that he's had cancer this entire
time and that he's now actually dying from it. Ivy finds out anyway
and she's completely crushed by this news. She goes to see Raj and is
both upset and sad at the same time. Seriously, that scene where she
confronts Raj was pretty good. Ivy was there for Raj but she doesn't
get to see his dying breath because she was getting water for his
pain medication. I'm actually sad that Raj died because I really
liked him. Ivy also had a couple other plots involving her current
boyfriend and what she should do with her life. She also had some
divorce papers to sign but she didn't actually sign them. Ivy just
had a killer episode. She's often delegated to the background, which
is disappointing, but whenever she's in the forefront it often gets
good. It was a smart move ensuing that Ivy was the focus of this
episode.
While
Raj was dying, Naomi was pretending that Jen was dead to her. One of
my favorite lines of the episode is when Naomi states that she said
that her own sister was dead to her without really realizing what
those words meant. Naomi spends the entire episode fighting with Jen
because she doesn't believe that Jen actually cares about her. Jen
reveals that she has always been looking out for her little sister in
her own way. For instance, she had Naomi pick the room with the
smallest closet because it was the only room where Naomi wouldn't
hear their mom and dad fight. The two manage to make up at the end of
the episode, just as Jen leaves to Paris, but not before revealing
that there's a secret Preston is hiding from everyone. A secret that
makes Jen happy neither of them got Preston. Of course, Naomi had
just slept with Preston when hearing this and then doesn't hear what
the secret is. I'm actually really interested in what this secret is.
Does it have to do with that magazine that failed?
While
Preston was getting together with Naomi, he was urging Annie to get
back into the dating game. He's tired of Annie being all
self-righteous and I'm extremely happy that someone is calling her
out on it. She does find a guy and he seems to be perfect for her. He
loves to do charity and feels guilty about his past. He's just like
her! He's also a priest. I think the show has just found the best
possible person to pair Annie with. She'll probably judge herself for
eventually getting the priest to give up his celibacy vows but he'll
probably judge himself for breaking that vow, then they'll judge each
other. It's like a match made in heaven! Uhh...no pun intended. Wait
a minute, I'm actually interested in Annie's story-line now?
Last
week, 90210 had a good episode. This episode is also good and even
slightly better. It doesn't just have conflict that works, but it has
situations with actual depth. There's a guy who realizes that lying
is wrong but can't get himself to tell the truth. A girl who finds
out that the husband who left her is dying of cancer and her wish to
be there for him. There's two sisters who realize that they are
completely dysfunctional but love each other anyways. There's a girl
whose scared of what the future might bring and a guy trying to be
there. It's like 90210 remembered that it's a drama and it simply
started to improve exponentially.
