Episode 13: It's Easy to Cry When
This Much Cash Is Involved
By: Carlos Uribe
Ringer is a show
about a twin who takes the place of her twin's life.
Spoilers Ahoy!
Last episode, the
Juliet storyline wasn't utterly ridiculous. This week, it became
utterly ridiculous. It would have been an interesting turn if Juliet
had lied and Tessa was really molested. It could have led to some
interesting places. It turns out that this entire time it was all a
con to get Juliet's money. Tessa was in on it but so was Mr.
Carpenter. This was such a twist that came out of nowhere and really
didn't make a lot of sense character-wise. I could have seen Tessa
agreeing to this, but Mr. Carpenter? This felt like a twist to try
and be clever. It wasn't clever and it was even a rip-off the movie
Wild Things. This is flat out
the stupidest thing this show has done. It has made the entire plot a
complete waste of time. Why bother doing something if you're not
going to have an original perspective on it?
Bridget spends the
episode trying to figure out Siobhan's secrets. She does get some
evidence, for once, such as that Siobhan knew Delario for a while and
that she really wasn't forgiven. She hired the driver to be her
bodyguard because she realized her life might still be in danger. She
had also previously hired the driver to drive her around and help her
solve the mystery of Siobhan. Surely the driver would have thought
something was up with the person he thinks is Siobhan not knowing
anything? Bridget has an answer for that. It's a completely
ridiculous answer that I don't think anyone intelligent would at all
buy. That was even stupider than ripping off Wild Things.
I get that she needs to find the answers, but couldn't have answer
been a little more creative?
Henry learns a
version of the truth. He believes that Bridget had the idea to switch
places with Siobhan and that she knows her twin sister is alive.
Siobhan also states that Bridget was told to stay away from Henry,
which explains why she broke things off with Henry. Siobhan then
proceeds to claim that John Delario and Bridget got greedy, which is
why they kidnapped Gemma. Henry is being told a whole bunch of lies
and he buys every one of them. He sure is trusting despite having
been lied to for months and not being in the loop. Is there anyone
whose intelligent on this show? He also gets his father-in-law to
invest in Andrew's company. This is a bad thing because Siobhan has
been planning to take down the company.
It turns out that
Siobhan plans to steal all of Andrew's money. She can't divorce him
thanks to an iron-clad prenup. She wants to be free from Andrew but
she also wants all his money. Her plan apparently involves in getting
the SEC to investigate Andrew's company and get him thrown in jail.
This is a great plan until you consider that the SEC will more than
likely freeze Andrew's assets. This includes the wealth that Siobhan
is trying to steal. This plan is stupid. It's also amazing that she
successfully lied to her Paris boyfriend that Henry is her brother.
That was a ridiculous lie but it's even more amazing that he bought
it. What is it about Siobhan that makes men trust her so easily? She
reveals she's going back to Paris.
This was overall a
stupid episode of Ringer. It has managed to single-handedly destroy
any hope I have that this might turn out to be a good show. I guess
it's possible for the show to improve, but the writers can't even
think up of good stories. This late in the game, to not even see the
writers trying to improve the show is a sign. Even the stories that
they rip off they can't execute well. For this reason, I have decided
to stop reviewing it weekly. (Note Added February 19, 2012: I will continue to cover this show weekly due to reader interest.)
I've been watching Ringer since the pilot and for me this was the most exciting episode yet! Its the first time i actually surfed for reviews to see what others were thinking.. I hope you rethink your decision to stop reviewing it.. I'm sure alot of fans will be disappointed
ReplyDeleteWell, since there's interest in me reviewing Ringer...I guess I'll review it till the end of the season.
