Episode 11: Tarantella
Mini-Review
By: Carlos Uribe
Grimm is a show
about a guy who hunts fairy tale monsters.
Spoilers Ahoy!
This week Amy
Acker guest stars as a black widow! She's a spider-lady that seduces
men and after sex kills them. She doesn't enjoy killing them, at
least not as much as the sex, but she does it because she has a
biological imperative to do so. She also kills because she has a
rapid aging disease that can only be held back by the deaths of men.
She's also a loving a moving mother and wife. While she is ruthless,
she is also sympathetic. This series, unlike a Gifted Man, knows how
to make a sympathetic villain of the week. It's up to Nick to stop
her and he eventually does. He also spends the episode getting the
creatures that have been watching his house to stop. He even meets a
new creature, a spider-creature like Amy Acker but who refuses to
kill lives, that aids him on his quest.
This was a good,
creepy episode. It had a good sympathetic villain. What I like about
this show is how it shows that even though these are monsters who
take human lives, they have families and live like the rest of us. It
humanizes them in a good way. It's been explained before that a Grimm
has always been the story told to frighten young monster children
into behaving. It gets brought back up this episode. It's details
like this that make Grimm's universe feel so real. I'm also really
loving Nick being a good, other than a clueless, Grimm.
